Participation by PATHS in *SEM 2013

Kate Fernie

The main goal of *SEM is to provide a stable forum for the growing number of NLP researchers working on different aspects of semantic processing.  PATHS team members from the University of the Basque Country will be travelling to Atlanta in June to present results from an evaluation exercise that has allowed the PATHS system to be compared to the state of the art from around the world.

This year’s *SEM conference will be a two-day event co-located with the 2013 Conference of the North American Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics: Human Language Technologies (NAACL HLT).  The conferences will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, in June. *SEM will be on June 13-14.

Eneko Agirre will be presenting results from the shared Semantic Textual Similarity task , which results created using Europeana items. This task is part of an open evaluation exercise based on a public typed-similarity evaluation dataset and the results allows the comparison of the PATHS system to the state-of-the-art around the globe. 6 teams participated in the task with PATHS being ranked second.

Aitor Gonzalez Agirre will present the system description of the PATHS system that participated in the task.
